WHAT IS ALL NET

National Junior Basketball (NJB) Commissioner and Founder, Dennis Murphy Jr., established the All Net division of NJB in 1993. The goal of the All Net Department was to provide a competitive and organized environment that further enhances the fundamental skill sets of its participants, in preparing them for their respective high school level basketball program. It allows for a higher level of competition and operates under different premises than that of the Recreational (divisional) program. All Net is comprised of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade divisions for both boys and girls. All Net teams must have a minimum of seven (7) players to participate in any of the seasonal (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer) leagues.

PHILOSOPHY

The La Mirada NJB Chapter’s philosophy is that All Net is for the highest caliber players from the City of La Mirada and our La Mirada Chapter. It gives the more advanced players a chance to play at a higher level than through our or any other local recreational program. As representatives of our City our All Net teams will host and travel to other NJB City/Chapters to compete against their respective All Net teams.  Playing on an All Net team is a privilege and something that our kids and coaches take great pride in achieving. The benefit of having the All Net program is that it keeps our elite level players playing at an appropriate level, staying within the community, and thereby keeps parity in our recreational program. Current La Mirada NJB All Net players are not allowed to play in the La Mirada NJB Recreational Division, other recreational leagues may allow this but in our recreational league it is absolutely not allowed.

COMMUNITY BASED

The great thing about All Net is that it is community / city based!  Most La Mirada All Net Team Rosters carry 10 players. For the boys, 8 out 10 and for the girls 7 out 10 must reside in the City of La Mirada with the other 2 to 3 players only being able to come from the immediately adjacent and surrounding cities. Therefore our La Miarda All Net team roster(s) make up will always be 70 to 100% La Mirada residents. This is by design and strictly enforced by our Chapters Board of Directors and NJB Headquarters. All Cities that have NJB Chapters have the same requirements and must abide by this.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BASIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ALL NET AND ‘CLUB’ LEVEL PLAY?

All Net teams are community based and developed.
Club Level (i.e.; AAU) can have kids on their roster who reside in multiple cities from all over the county, state or in some cases multiple states.

All Net teams mostly play their league/conference games in the county that their respective city is apart of (i.e. La Mirada (NorthOrangeCounty).
Club Level teams primarily play in tournaments and do have to travel to multiple counties and states of their choosing to compete against other similar club level teams and programs. There are club level ‘leagues’ but those are not as available or plentiful geographically.

All Net does have 3 distinct divisions (White, Green, Blue) to provide for better parity among its divisions.

Club Level teams by nature and are developed to be ‘top level’ (blue level) teams.

All Net teams can chose to be a year round program or to participate on a season by season basis.
Club Level teams by nature are year round.

On an annual basis an All Net team cost participation can be 50-70% less than the cost of a typical Club Level team.

ALL NET CERTIFICATION (TEAM, PLAYER AND COACH)

Every All Net Team, Player and Coach must be approved and certified by the La Mirada NJB Board of Directors and NJB National Headquarters before it may be scheduled to play in any NJB All Net Season games and tournaments.  La Mirada NJB coaches must live in the City of La Mirada or their child, as a member of the team, must attend a school located in the City of La Mirada. There is a process to become certified as a coach and to learn more about it please e-mail the La Mirada NJB board.

ALL NET LEVELS OF PLAY

There are three (3) distinct levels of play within the All Net Division, they are as follows:

1)  White Division: Generally a first year (newly formed) structured team, usually made up of players that were on their respective cities Recreational All Star Team and desire to continue to play together at the ‘next’ level.

2)  Green Division: Generally a second year All Net Team, has a good point guard and strong center,  finishes .500 or better in NJB All Net League Play and Tournaments or is a strong first year All Star team.

3)  Blue Division:   Best of the Best in NJB.

The benefit of having these three levels is that it maintains parity and allows for participants to compete against other participants and teams with similar skill sets and experience.

NUMBER OF ALL NET TEAMS

At this time there is no restriction to the number of teams at each grade level participating in the above mentioned All Net Levels of White, Green or Blue. The determination of which level a team will play in will be the responsibility of the Coach, All Net Coordinator and Boys or Girls Player Agent.

There can be as many teams as there are All Net caliber players and qualified coaches so long as there enough players to run a self contained Divisional (Recreational) League. In recent years we have only been able to have one team per grade so as not to deplete our Divisional ranks.

HOW ARE LA MIRADA NJB ALL NET TEAMS FORMED?

A majority of our All Net teams are formed following the All Star portion of NJB Winter Season Divisional Program. We find that most of the coaches and kids that make their respective grade level All Star team take great pride in this and want to stay together and compete at the next level. Try-Outs are also conducted before each Winter Season as a means to recognize and evaluate the talent of each child interested in participating in All-Net.

DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE PLAYING IN THE LA MIRADA NJB RECREATIONAL LEAGUE IN ORDER TO QUALIFY TO BE ON AN ALL NET TEAM?

No. Our goal as a chapter is to facilitate the opportunity for all La Mirada residents who are of All Net caliber, regardless of what league they currently play in, to inquire and or tryout either for a current/established or a newly forming All Net Team. Since being on an All Net team is highly coveted we strongly suggest that your child be playing in our league so that the prospective All Net Coach(s) can evaluate your son and or daughter early, for once a team is formed, spots rarely become available or if a spot does comes available most All Net coaches will come to the recreational program to see if they can fill that spot before having a tryout.

ARE ALL NET PLAYERS ALLOWED TO PLAY IN BOTH THE RECREATIONAL AND ALL NET PROGRAMS?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!  We feel this would be very counter productive for both the All Net player and the Recreational player and would completely defeat the purpose of maintaining balance and parity for our participants in the recreational program. We as a Chapter pride ourselves as having a true recreational program separate from our All Net / competitive program. We also take it one step further by doing are best to screen out any current AAU and or Club Level type participants who are not apart of our All Net program but wish to register in our Recreational program.

WHERE & WHAT TIMES DO THE ALL NET TEAMS PRACTICE?

Being that La Mirada NJB All Net is community based; all of our All Net Teams, during the Winter Season (November through March) have gym time reserved and contracted with the Norwalk La Mirada School District and its La Mirada High School gym. Practice days are generally Monday thru Friday with blocks of time being from 7pm to 9pm. Depending on each individual coach, most teams practice two times (2x) per week with conference games generally being on Sunday. Our goal with the allocation of gym/practice times is to have our younger grade level teams (5th and 6th) start earlier and our older grade level teams (7th & 8th) practice later.  Not all All Net Coaches and teams may choose to practice at these times, location or days depending on overlapping work commitments, scheduling conflicts etc.
